Carolyn Steptoe Jones of Quitman died July 10 Carolyn Steptoe Jones, 67, of Quitman died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center from a sudden illness. Her funeral was held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, in the Magnolia Room Chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Elder Dwight Marshall officiating. Burial was at Wayfare Cemetery. Born on Nov. 3, 1940 in Soperton, she was the daughter of the late Luke and Bessie Steptoe. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker who loved her grandchildren, and she loved needlework such as embroidery and cross-stitch. She attended Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jones. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Marshall Lanier of Millen and Teresa and John Newton of Quitman; grandchildren, LCPL Adam Lanier of the Marines and Washington, D.C., Justin Lanier of Millen and Joshua Newton and Wesley Newton, both of Quitman; a brother, Cleveland Steptoe Jr. of Millen; a brother-in-law and his spouse, Carlton and Barbara Jones of Swainsboro; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Sara and Randy Moore of Wadley and Peggy and Billy Dailey of Stillmore; and several nieces and nephews.
