Dorothy Humphrey Ward of Millen died July 11

Mrs. Dorothy Humphrey Ward, 92, of Millen passed away peacefully Friday, July 11, 2008 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va.

Her funeral was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Millen United Methodist Church. Burial as in the Millen Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward was born in Jenkins County June 1, 1916 to Grover C. and Pearl Humphrey. She was a graduate of Millen High School and Erlanger School of Nursing in Chattanooga, Tenn., and after 40 years, retired from Jenkins County Hospital as a registered nurse. Her nursing career was a "calling" that she answered with her heart.

She dearly loved her family and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and love that she gave to all who knew her.

Mrs. Ward was a member of Millen United Methodist Church where she had been secretary-treasurer of the Epworth Bible Class and a member of the Morning Sunshine Circle.

Survivors include her three sons and daughter, Taylor (Penny) Ward of Morristown, Tenn., Larry Ward of Cumming, Roy (Tina) Ward of Wilmington, N.C. and Jane (Morris) Taylor of Galax, Va.; her beloved sister-in-law, Sarah Humphrey of Millen; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several treasured nieces and nephews.
