Datebook JCHS Student Schedules Announcement Jenkins County High School (JCHS) reminds everyone that the new school year is here and JCHS is excited about all the new course offerings available through Swainsboro Technical College, as well as the high school courses. Open House is scheduled for 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at which time all students can pick up their schedules. However, in an effort to begin opening school day with schedule conflicts already resolved, Ruth Hearn and Dr. Joseph Kirkland are inviting seniors, juniors and sophomores to come by the school and pick up their schedules prior to open house! Students can go to Hearn's office from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. on the following days to pick up their schedules: Tuesday, July 29, seniors; Wednesday, July 30, juniors; and Thursday, July 31, sophomores. Dance to benefit Flakes family A benefit dance for Vickie and Raymond Flakes will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Hanging Rock Plantation. Everyone is invited to enjoy an evening of dancing to the oldies with DJ Joe Sasser and friends for $20 per couple. Chickenpox Vaccine All children who will be entering kindergarten and the sixth grade are required to have the chickenpox vaccination or to show proof of immunity. Documentation can be obtained on Form 3231 which can be issued by the health department or the doctor where your child receives immunizations. This form will be needed for school entry for kindergarten and the sixth grade this year, 2008. At the health department, the cost of the chickenpox vaccine is determined by the number in your family and by showing proof of total family income. If proof is not presented, you may elect to pay 100 percent of the charge. Medicaid is accepted. For more information, contact the Jenkins County Health Department at (478) 982-2811. Free Legal Help Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a firstcome, first-serve basis. Senior Citizens, 60 years of age or older who have a civil, non-criminal legal issue may be able to obtain help. A GLSP staff member will be in Jenkins County 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Ave. The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta. Due to the run-off election, the Jenkins County Council of Churches Membership Meeting has been changed to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Building. |
