Meeting

The Jenkins County Council of Churches will hold a membership meeting 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. The directors of the corporation will provide an update on recent activities and plans for the future. Information will also be available on how to join this local mission outreach.

The Board of Directors includes Robin Scott, Ronnie Johnson, Annette Head, Rudine Becton, A.P. Mack, Pam Dwight, Christy Bandy, Cindy Linder, J.C. Douglas, Mandy Underwood, Tonya Gearheart, Alvin Burke, P.M. Broomfield, Wanda Dwight, Mike Head and Bobby Taylor Jr.

Churches represented on the board are: Deep Creek Free Will Baptist, Bethel AME, Zion Baptist, West Millen Baptist, Oak Hill Baptist, Millen Baptist, Millen United Methodist and True Born Church of God.

Currently, a representative for the Council of Churches can be contacted for assistance at the Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. until noon; and Thursdays, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

The purpose of the Jenkins County Council of Churches is to help meet basic social needs for families in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The public is asked to attend this meeting and to consider joining this local mission outreach.

JCRD Fall Sports Jenkins County Recreation Department (JCRD) is now holding registration for: soccer, ages 4 - 12, boys and girls; and fall baseball, ages 10 - 12, boys. The deadline to register is Thursday, Aug. 21, at the JCRD office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The fee is $25 per child. A birth certificate must be presented, if not already on file with the department.

Coaches are needed for soccer, baseball, football and cheerleading. Coaches must submit to a background check and complete CPR and First Aid training.

FSA Deadlines

Farm Service Agency reminds producers of the following upcoming deadlines: Friday Aug. 15, 2008 crop acreage reporting (including CRP) and 2008 Boll Weevil Assessment Payment; Tuesday, Sept.16, 2008 Buy In Coverage (required for new disaster programs); Tuesday, Sept.30, 2008 Direct and Counter Cyclical Program Sign-up; and Monday, Dec.1, 2009 NAP Insurance Coverage (required for new disaster programs.)

JCRD offers Karate

Classes

Karate classes are being offered at the Jenkins County Recreation Department at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for ages 5 through adult.

Girls' Day Out Girls' Day Out, sponsored by the Sylvania Junior Woman's Club, will be held 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Believer's Church Family Life Building, 1320 Frontage Road, Sylvania. Admission is free, and there will be refreshments, door prizes and vendors from everywhere. Massage techs and nail techs will also be present.

The public is invited.
