Hunter Education Course offered

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will offer the 10-hour Hunter Education Course at Magnolia Springs State Park 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, and Tuesday, Aug. 26. The course will conclude 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28. Attendance at all three sessions is mandatory to be eligible to take the certification test.

Participants who do not wish to attend the 10-hour instructorled course may chose to complete the Internet course. Those interested in the Internet course should go to www.beasafehunter.org. After completing all lessons and the review test, students should print out and sign the "Hunter Education Final Report and Affidavit" and bring it to the class. The Internet course does require participants to attend a review session and pass the Hunter Education test. The review and test will be held 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, August 28, at Magnolia Springs State Park.

Participants in either the 10-hour course or the Internet course must pre-register. Participants can register at no cost by going to www.georgiawildlife.com and click on the course registration icon. Participants may also call 1(800) 864-7275 to be registered by an operator for the Hunter Education course for a small fee.

JCHS to hold School Council Election

for Parents

Jenkins County High School (JCHS) has scheduled a School Council Parent Election for 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in the school media center. Two parents will be elected to serve on the council for the next school year. Parents or guardians of students enrolled in JCHS are eligible to serve as parent members of the school council. The law excludes parents of students in the school who are also employees of the school system, who work at JCHS, to be eligible to serve on the council.

If you have questions concerning the school council, contact Dr. Joseph Kirkland at 982-4791 or come by the school office. All eligible parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and participate in the election.
