Free Legal Help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a firstcome, first-serve basis. Senior Citizens, 60 years of age or older who have a civil, non-criminal legal issue may be able to obtain help.

A GLSP staff member will be in Jenkins County 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Ave.

The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta. The office can be reached at 1(800) 248- 6697.

Jenkins County Recreation Department

The Jenkins County Recreation Department is now offering tumbling classes on Wednesdays. The instructor is Dawn Boddiford of Double Dose Gymnastics. Classes will start today, Wednesday, Sept. 3. Call or go to the recreation office to register. There is a yearly registration fee of $15.

Turtle Tots, children 2 and 3 years of age, costs $30 per month and class time is 3:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Munchkins, children 4 and 5 years of age, costs $40 per month and class time is 4 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Tumbling for children 6 to 12 years of age costs $50 per month, and class time is 4:45 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. Tumbling for those 13 to 17 years of age costs $50 per month, and class time is 4:45 p.m. until 5:45 p.m.

The football registration deadline is Thursday, Sept. 25, for ages 4 through 12. The fee is $35.

The cheerleading registration deadline is Thursday, Sept. 25. The fee is $20.

Karate classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. The instructor is Terry Langeston and the fee is $40 per month.

Bethany Barbecue Fundraiser

Bethany Nursing Center of Millen will hold a Barbecue Pork Plate Sale 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, for a $6 donation. You must bring your ticket to pick up your plate. Delivery is available for five or more plates to one location. All proceeds will benefit the residents' Christmas. The menu is barbecue pork, green beans, potato salad, bread and cake. The deadline for ticket purchase is Friday, Sept. 12. There will also be whole butts (eight to 10 pounds) available for $25. Booster Club Chicken-Que postponed The Jenkins County Athletic Booster Club's "Chicken-Que" scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 has been postponed until Oct. 3rd.
