Plans are finalized for Fair-on-the Square

The annual Fair-on-the Square arts and crafts festival will kick off 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and continue until 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Jenkins County Courthouse.

A few of the items that will be available for sale include scroll and saw art, Christmas ornaments, pillows pocketbooks, candles, knives, hair accessories and incense. There will be baked goods and many food booths serving throughout the day. Also, games and fun rides will be enjoyed by children in attendance.

Two of Jenkins County's oldest citizens, Elizabeth Daniel and E.J. Daniel will serve as Grand Marshals of the parade which begins at 10 a.m. Starting at the Jenkins County High School, the parade will proceed South on Gray Street, East on Cotton Avenue, North on Masonic Street, West on Winthrope Avenue, North on Gray Street, ending back at the high school. Drivers of vehicles participating are asked to assemble no later than 9 a.m. All other participants are asked to assemble no later than 9:30 a.m. All participants are asked to toss candy on Cotton and Winthrope avenues only.

Entertainment will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will feature the following performers: 10:30 a.m., Jenkins County High School Band; 11 a.m., Will Gay and Ashley Brinson; 11:30 a.m., Kaye Miller School of Dance; noon, The Kelly Family; 12:30 p.m., Lynford Cook and Tommy Cooper; 1 p.m., Leroy and Anne Clayton; 1:30 p.m., Perseverance; 2:15 p.m., Glenn Walden and Vickie Bragg; and 3 p.m., Unit Choir.

Parking for the fair will be available at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home and The Millen Baptist Church. Fair patrols are asked not to park at BI-LO, Family Dollar Store, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Papa's Pizza and Dollar General.

For the safety and enjoyment of all, pets, silly string, shaving cream battles, wrestling and playing ball on the courthouse square during the fair hours will not be allowed.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day shopping and visiting.
