Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Let me tell you about my former student, fellow teacher and friend, Freddie Brinson.

Teaching and education are in his blood! He taught for 31 years in our Jenkins County schools - 27 of those years he had perfect attendance. He stays in touch with former students and teacher friends, attends most meetings of the Board of Education and keeps his teaching certificate updated. (Seems he can't get enough of school!) No wonder he has been named Star Teacher several times and chosen Jenkins County Teacher of the Year.

Believe me, Freddie spends his money wisely, as well as usefully. He takes super care of his Piney Woods cattle and his special friend, Gladys (his dog.) He sponsors a cottage of boys at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, where he helps with their material needs. He visits the boys after each reporting time and treats those with passing grades to a meal at a restaurant of their choice (and it's not a hamburger joint!) Several years ago he took Andrew Thomas into his home. His encouragement and help was rewarded as Andrew was an honor graduate, finished college, is now a captain in the U.S. Marines, has served two tours of duty in Iraq and is now engaged to Dr. Lauren Zimmerman. Yes, I'd say Freddie is a true encourager to our young people!

Freddie Brinson is a member, deacon and teacher of an adult Sunday School class at Green Fork Baptist Church.

Is it any wonder such a person would want to represent District 4 on the Board of Education?
