Millen Woman's Club The Millen Woman's Club met Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Education Building of Jenkins County Hospital. Hostesses Libby Williams and Carolyn Fields served a delicious dessert as members arrived. President Anette Head called the meeting to order and led the members in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Kay Green gave the inspiration and Marilyn Knight gave a leadership tip. Plans for service projects were presented by club department chairmen in arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. President Head welcomed new member Jane Johnson to the meeting. The program was presented by Susan Fowler of Safe Haven in Statesboro. Safe Haven is a DHRcertified emergency shelter where women and their children go when they are fleeing domestic violence. This may include physical violence, as well as emotional manipulation, threats or coercion. The shelter is open 24/7. Safe Haven serves Bulloch, Candler, Screven, Washington, Effingham and Jenkins counties. There is no charge for the services provided to victims and families. Representatives of the shelter may be reached at 1 (800) 33-HAVEN. Since this is a non-profit organization, Millen Woman's Club plans to provide some of the items needed at the shelter. |
