It was a special time for activity directors recently, as we gathered in Columbus for the State Activity Convention. There were hundreds present for the meeting. The theme was "Progress is Contagious - Activities are Timeless." We were happy to see Bethany Home's activity director, Bonnie McClain, present. It's a joy to see those who serve in long-term care from across our state.

Syl-View volunteers attended the awards luncheon recently, as we received five state awards. Amanda Long received "Teen Volunteer of the Year" honors for her service. Amanda has been a volunteer all of her young life. Jordan Zeigler, who is also from Syl-View and holds the title of "Teen Volunteer of the Year" for 2007, was present for the luncheon. Lucas Bolton, another Syl-View teen volunteer, attended with the Memorial Church Mission Group. The church group won the "Group Volunteer of the Year" award for Syl-View. We received five state awards, including the two volunteer awards.

In Media Awards, we received first place for Special Public Relations Event, which was our Martin Luther King Celebration, planned and directed by volunteer Jerry Hunter. We received first place in Radio for our "Community Insights" on WZBX-WSYL Radio. We also received third place in Total Community Involvement.

We are proud to be an awardwinning facility, and Syl-View is able to share because of the volunteers and the involvement of our communities.

I received a certificate for 750 hours of on-going education, as I strive to learn all I can to be able to plan an activity program to provide the highest quality of life possible for the residents at Syl-View.

We are grateful for the interest and the kind words we receive from people in the Millen and Jenkins County area. Come and visit us soon.
