JCHS Junior ROTC wins

Saturday, Oct. 4, the Jenkins County High School War Eagles competed against the big boys from Athens, Augusta, Atlanta and Columbus on the campus of Elbert County Comprehensive High School. Forty-eight teams from 22 schools gathered to compete in five areas of competition; the Army Physical Fitness Test made up of push-ups (2 minutes), sit-ups (2 minutes) and a two mile run; a one-rope bridge spanning 45 feet; a litter-carry covering one-half mile through woods carrying six 35 pound "rucksacks" and one litter (stretcher) with a 120 pound pipe strapped on; a military HUMMV pull of 100 yards on grass, up-hill; and a two mile team run.
The Male-mixed Raider Team (4 females and 6 males) finished first on the Rope Bridge, first on the Cross Country Rescue Litter Carry, third on the Army Physical Fitness Test, seventh on the HUMMV pull and took second overall in their division, one point behind Cedar Shoals (AAAA School). Members of the Male - Mixed Team are: Brianna Joiner, Angel Cunningham, Brittany McKinney, Morgan Pickett, Brad Amerson, Dante Daniels, Fernando Gomez, Remi Gomez, Andres Jeronimo and Tay Taylor, Bernard Thompson and Latoria Wimberly.
The Male Team finished twelfth overall with their highlight being in the Rope Bridge event. The team accomplished their best time of the year at 1:38 to finish fifth. Members of the Male Team are: Steve Barber, Ra'Shon Brady, Paul Dieteman, Jared Hackworth, Chris Hillis, Marquis Moody, Trenton Polk, Chris Simmons, Damien Smith, Lashonda Kelsey and Victoria Phillips.
The Raiders will travel to Hiram Oct. 17. Competition is open to the public at no charge. Concessions are available.
