"Cake Walk with a Cause"
The Jenkins County High School Family, Career and Community Members of America (FCCMA) will host a "Cake Walk with a Cause" Friday, Dec. 5, at "Christmas in Millen." All proceeds will be donated to Toys for Tots.
Health Care for returning Soldiers
As part of the Department of Defense's (DoD) efforts to ensure the well-being of returning soldiers and civilians, the U.S. Army's Post-Deployment Health Reassessment (PDHRA) program offers eligible soldiers and civilians access to care for physical and behavioral health concerns that may result from a combat deployment.
For more information on the program, soldiers, civilians and family members can visit http://fhp.osd.mil/pdhrainfo. Soldiers and commanders can check their PDHRA status in Army Knowledge Online (AKO) under "My Medical Readiness" or by clicking on the PDHRA Stoplight on their AKO homepage.
Burgess Landrum School Class of 1966 to meet
The Burgess Landrum School Class of 1966 will hold a business meeting noon, Saturday, Nov. 29, at Vera's Kitchen. All classmates are urged to attend.
Augusta Chorale presents Handel's Messiah
On Sunday, Dec. 14, the Augusta Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Phyllis W. Anderson, will present George Handel's Messiah featuring Funmilayo Harmon, soprano; Pamela Dillard, mezzo soprano; Timothy Miller, tenor; and Isaac Holmes, bass. Keith Shafer will accompany on organ.
Dr. Anderson has served as the music consultant at Zion Baptist Church in Millen for the past three years. She has worked with Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Douglas, June Powell and Pastor Broomfield for several summer youth programs, as well as with wholesome Bible activities and workshops.
A free pre-concert workshop, "Handel's Messiah," will be presented at 2:30 p.m. before the concert for children and teens attending the concert. Dr. Anderson will lead the children's workshop; Susan Calkins, an east Augusta middle school educator, will lead the teen workshop. Parents must accompany children to workshop.
