JCFEC to sponsor Town Meeting Oct. 1
The annual town meeting, sponsored by Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center (JCFEC), will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center.
The spotlight for this year's event will be on "workforce development."
Area vendors will attend to provide educational and job resources. Vendors expected to be present include: Georgia Southern University, Southeastern Technical College, Georgia Power, Queensboro National Bank and Trust, One Stop - ECGC, Georgia Department of Labor and the U.S. Census Bureau.
Door prizes will be given away, and refreshments will be provided by the Millen Woman's Club.

Fair-on-the-Square plans announced
The annual Fair-on-the-Square will take place at the Jenkins County Elementary School 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
Some items that will be offered are etched glassware, leather goods, handmade jewelry, woodcrafts, University of Georgia logo items and custom t-shirts. There will also be chair massages, baked goods and many different food booths. Games and rides will be on hand for the children and young at heart.
Entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. featuring local and out-oftown performers. The schedule of entertainers will be published next week.
For the safety and enjoyment of all, pets, silly string, shaving cream battles, wrestling and playing ball will not be allowed in the fair area.
The Fair-on-the-Square is sponsored by Millen Better Hometown, and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a day of fun, food and entertainment. For additional information or booth space, contact Art Johnson at (478) 982-5595.
Free State Park Day
Magnolia Springs State Park is celebrating Free State Park Day this Saturday, Sept. 26, and invites everyone to come join in the fun.
There will be no charge for entry to the park. Events will begin with a Fishing Rodeo at 9 a.m., followed by a series of activities including catching small things in the lake, old time candle making and various games. The day will end with a campfire by the lake.
There will also be opportunities to help improve the park's appearance.
