Relay for Life Kickoff

to be held Dec. 3

The American Cancer Society’s 2010 Relay for Life of Jenkins County will hold a kickoff event 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Planters Electric Membership Corporation.

Volunteers are asked to come and find out how to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

The local Relay for Life is set for May 14-15, 2010 at the Jenkins County Recreation Department.

Millen Woman’s Club meets

The Millen Woman’s Club met Oct. 20 in the Education Building of the Jenkins County Hospital. President Anette Head called the meeting to order and Libby Williams shared an inspiration. Hostesses Gilda Rackley and Mandy Underwood served members a delicious dessert.

The program for the day was provided by Kathy Tuckey from the Augusta office of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association not only advances research into the disease in an effort to find a cure, but also helps and supports families and caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Every 70 seconds someone in the United States develops this disease. Mrs. Tuckey shared the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s.

This fall, the Millen Woman’s Club has had several community projects. They have provided wall clocks for the Jenkins County Hospital, prepared and served refreshments at the Town Hall meeting, donated art supplies to the Jenkins County Elementary School and sponsored a booth at the Fairon the-Square. The members have plans for several other projects in the coming months. Rec. Dept. holds

The Jenkins County Recreation Department is holding registration for basketball for boys and girls, ages 6-12.

A birth certificate and registration fee is required at signup. The deadline for signing up is Monday, Dec. 7.

College/Career Fair

to be held today

Jenkins County High School will host a College/Career Fair 1:15-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 (today) at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. Seniors will tour the fair during fifth period and Juniors will tour during sixth period. Parents are welcome to attend the fair and visit with college representatives. Representatives from approximately 25 colleges as well as military recruiters from the four major armed services are expected to attend. Students will have the opportunity to pick up college applications and speak to many college admission counselors during the fair. Eagle Rock Café to

be held Nov. 19

Eagle Rock Cafe, sponsored by Jenkins County Interact Club, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. Come out and enjoy and dinner and entertainment by local talent.

Eagle Rock Café is an annual talent show and dinner that Interact sponsors to raise money for an international project. Funds raised this year will be donated to Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio in the remaining places where it exists in the world.

Tickets are $10 and are available at Jenkins County High School and from Interact Club members.

Middle School to

host Kings of the

Court Classic

The Jenkins County Middle School will host a Kings of the Court Classic basketball tournament 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, and Thursday, Nov. 19, in the new school gymnatorium.

Teams scheduled to participate include Jenkins County, CCAT, Metter and Collins.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The public is invited to attend.
