Pooler man charged in shooting

MICHAEL PAUL LANE MICHAEL PAUL LANE Michael Paul Lane, 33, of 4 Bluelake Blvd., Pooler, has been arrested in connection with the Friday, Dec. 18, burglary of a 340 Cleveland Avenue residence in which the owner of the residence was shot.

A Millen Police Department (MPD) report indicates that the resident arrived home at approximately 5 p.m. to find his home being burglarized. As the victim entered the residence, he was held at gunpoint by the intruder who attempted to coax the victim inside the residence. The victim was shot once in the face.

Lane was arrested by MPD officers on Hendrix Street, approximately one block from the residence.

The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services personnel to the Jenkins County Hospital where he was treated and released.

Lane was charged with aggravated assault, burglary, aggravated cruelty to animals, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges against Lane are pending in connection with other burglaries in the area.

The firearm used in the Dec. 18 burglary, which was retrieved during a search of the area Saturday morning, was reported stolen during a burglary on College Avenue that occurred earlier last week. Several items connected to recent burglaries were also found in an abandoned house on Cleveland Avenue where Lane appeared to be living.

Lane is being held at the Jenkins County Jail pending further court action.
