JCMS to collect food for Golden Harvest Food Bank
As Christmas approaches, one local student organization is learning about the importance of giving and community service.
Loretta Reynolds, a volunteer with the Golden Harvest Food Bank, recently spoke to members of the Jenkins County Middle School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Mrs. Reynolds explained that during these tough economic times more families are in need of the services of the food bank. The food bank relies heavily on donations from the community not only at Christmas, but also throughout the year.
Mrs. Reynolds described the types of food items that were needed and in response, Pam Luke, local club adviser, explained that the FBLA chapter would embarked on their own community service project, Pantry Raid. Members will ask family and friends to raid their pantries, cupboards and kitchen cabinets of dried and nonperishable foods for people in need this holiday season. All food collected by the Dec. 16 deadline will be turned in to the Golden Harvest Food Bank. Loretta Reynolds, Golden Harvest Food Bank, speaks to members of the Jenkins County Middle School FBLA.
