Library News

By Sharon Blank

Happy New Year to all! We hope you had a great holiday season, and that you’ve all made a resolution to come into the library more often!

Want to see a movie on the big screen, but don’t want to pay a fortune or drive all the way to Statesboro? Come in to the library this Saturday, Jan. 9, at noon and enjoy our free Saturday Cinema! We will be showing “Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince” this Saturda, and everyone is invited to come in and enjoy the show!

Monday, Jan. 11, we will have our terrific “Mommy and Me” program at 11:30 a.m. Bring your infant or toddler to the library to enjoy a very special playtime with finger plays, nursery rhymes, and lots of other age-appropriate fun for both of you.

Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. we will have a special “Let’s Cook” Storytime! Bring in your child for a sweet story and a special treat they can make themselves!

Don’t forget about Dial-A-Story! Just call (478) 982-5898, and your child can listen to a great story like “The Hole in the Closet” or “The Legend of the Dipper” for free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

New at the library

The Shortest Distance Between Two Women by Kris Radish. When Samuel calls Emma Gilford and leaves a message on her answering machine, she’s angry. She’s done her best to distance herself from him, and she wants him to stay gone… or so she says. She’s always been the dependable one in the family, but she just might have reached to point of breaking down – or breaking through.

Other Men’s Horses by Elmer Kelton. Texas Ranger Andy Pickard would rather be at home with his new bride. Instead, he’s on the trail of a horse trader who killed a thief, and catching up with him may be just the start of his troubles.

The SF Site: The Home Page for Science Fiction and Fantasy

“The world of science fiction and fantasy, focusing on books and literature, but with some coverage of film and television as well. Includes numerous book reviews and author biographies and bibliographies.” This site is great for diving into the world of science fiction.

Well, that’s all for now – see you at the library!
