to be held March 6th

The Miss Jenkins County Schools Pageant will be held Saturday March 6, in the Jenkins County Gymnatorium.

There will be three competition categories again this year: elementary school, grades 3-5; middle school, grades 6-8, and high school, grades 9-12. All contestants will be judged on formal wear, except for the high school students. In addition to formal wear, high school students will also have to answer an interview question.

Applications may be picked up at the office of any of the three schools. Applications can be downloaded by going to http:// www.jenkins.k12.ga.us/ click on the high school website. The deadline to turn in an application will be Feb. 24.

Relay for Life needs committee members

Planning is underway for the 2010 Jenkins County Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event will be held Friday, May 14, and Saturday, May 15, at the Jenkins County Recreation Department complex.

Committee members are needed to help plan “the biggest block party of the year.”

Buckhead Academy reunion being planned

A school-wide reunion is currently being planned for everyone who attended or worked at Buckhead Academy. The reunion is tentatively planned to be held at Magnolia Springs State Park this summer. More information is available on Facebook by joining the group “Children of Buckhead Academy.”

Super Eagle Day to be held March 13

The event is called the 7th annual Super Eagle Day 1 mile/5K fun run/walk. It will take place at the Jenkins County Courthouse Saturday, March 13, and is open to anyone in the community who wishes to participate.

Proceeds will go to the Jenkins County school system boys’ and girls’ cross country teams. The entry fees are very reasonable with the cost for the 1 mile event being $10 and 5K for $15. The late entry fee (the morning of the event) for 1mile is $12; late entry fee (the morning of the event) for 5K is $20. Anyone who wishes to participate in both events can pay $20, but only receives one T-shirt. Winners in both events will receive trophies for the top three finishers in each age group. All runners registered by March 2, will be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Recreation Department

The Jenkins County Recreation Department is now holding registration for t-ball, softball and baseball. Ages 4-18 may come by the department to sign up.

Please remember to bring a copy of birth certificate if one is not on file at the office. The deadline for registration is March 4.

Baton lessons are now being offered at 4 p.m. on Mondays. Call 982-2943 or come by the office for more information.

Wrestling is Back

The wait is over! WECW Wrestling is back at the Jenkins County High School gym (old gym located in the school). The event is scheduled for Feb. 13. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7 p.m. Admission is only $7.

Come see local superstar Mason Storm go against Scott Cannon for the championship. This promises to be a can’t miss event!
