The Jenkins County Booster Club sponsored a fall athletic banquet at Jenkins County High School Thursday, Jan. 21, honoring student athletes who participated in One Act Play, Competition Cheerleading, Cross Country, Softball and Football. The One Act Play Cast was recognized for its accomplishment as the Region 3A Champion. Each cast member was presented with a medal, certificate and a region champion patch. Other teams gave out awards to honor individual accomplishments as well.

Competition cheer: Most Valuable Player (MVP), Shelby Burke; Heart of a Champion, Shae Burke; Eagle Award, Jessica Head; Most Improved, Cassie Bragg; Coach’s Award, Shiamante’ Grimes; Will to Win, Madison Allen; and Best Tumbler, Abby Whitt.

Cross Country: MVP, Boys, Andres Jeronimo and Brad Amerson; MVP, Girls, Ayana Walker and Brittany McKinney; Most Improved, Boys, Jared Orvin; Most Improved, Girls, Keondra Kelly; Coach’s Award, Boys, Tay Taylor; Coach’s Award, Girls, Krista Gay; Ray Miller Award, Boys, Jerome Taylor; and Ray Miller Award, Girls, Chassity Wilkerson.

Football - Junior Varsity - Best Offensive Lineman, Donald Pennington; Best Defensive Lineman, Darius Carter; Best Offensive Back, Brandon Watson; and Best Defensive Back, Lamont Ellison.

Softball - Best Offensive Player, Mackenzie Walker; Best Defensive Player, Ayana Walker; Region 3-A First Team, Mackenzie Walker; and Region 3-A First Team, Ayana Walker.

The highlight of the evening for the student athletes was the presentation of Junior and Senior Varsity Letterman Jackets. For many years the Jenkins County Athletic Booster Club has purchased the letterman jackets for student athletes without any recognition. Athletic Director Mark Whitt wanted to change that. The booster club, though small in number, plays such a vital role in helping support the athletic program.
