VFW to hold Awards Night
The local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post will conduct an awards ceremony at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens building. Recipients of awards include: James Burke, EMT of the Year; David Barron, Firefighter of the Year; Brad Adams, Millen law enforcement; Thomas “Kenny” Williams, Jenkins County law enforcement; Annette B. Cobb, Teacher Award; La’Tranese J. Sapp, Voice of Democracy; and Vashnia S. Clay (Patriots Pen).
The community is invited and encouraged to attend. Light snacks will be available.
Buckhead Academy reunion planned
A school-wide summer reunion is being planned for everyone who was associated with Buckhead Academy, including all students, parents and teachers.
These individuals are invited to join the Facebook group, “The Children of Buckhead Academy,” for more information.
Friends of Magnolia Springs State Park
to meet
The Friends of Magnolia Springs State Park will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Shelter #2 at the park. Members and others interested in Magnolia Springs are invited to attend.
VFW makes request for clothing
The recent census identified over 5,000 homeless Veterans in the Atlanta Area alone. During frigid times many have no lodging and inadequate clothing.
Local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Commander Byron Scogins and Post 2776 are appealing to the residents of Jenkins County to assist by donating winter clothing.
The VFW will be conducting a collection of winter clothing 10 a.m. – noon Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Eagle Pharmacy parking lot, across from the hospital.
Donated clothing will be transported to the Salvation Army in Atlanta who will distribute to those in need.
Donations will be greatly appreciated.
Super Eagle Day to be held March 13
The event is called the 7th annual Super Eagle Day 1 mile/5K fun run/walk. It will take place at the Jenkins County Courthouse Saturday, March 13, and is open to anyone in the community who wishes to participate.
Proceeds will go to the Jenkins County school system boys’ and girls’ cross country teams. The entry fees are very reasonable with the cost for the 1 mile event being $10 and 5K for $15. The late entry fee (the morning of the event) for 1mile is $12; late entry fee (the morning of the event) for 5K is $20. Anyone who wishes to participate in both events can pay $20, but only receives one T-shirt. Winners in both events will receive trophies for the top three finishers in each age group. All runners registered by March 2, will be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Registration is underway at rec. dept.
The Jenkins County Recreation Department is now holding registration for t-ball, softball and baseball. Ages 4-18 may come by the department to sign up.
Please remember to bring a copy of birth certificate if one is not on file at the office. The deadline for registration is March 4.
Baton lessons are now being offered at 4 p.m. on Mondays. Call 982-2943 or come by the office for more information.
Wrestling is back
The wait is over! WECW Wrestling is back at the Jenkins County High School gym (old gym located in the school). The
event is scheduled for Feb. 13. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with
the event starting at 7 p.m. Admission is only $7.

Miss Jenkins County Schools Pageant to
you
be held March 6 forever
The Miss Jenkins County Schools Pageant will be held Saturday March 6, in the Jenkins County Gymnatorium.
There will be three competition categories again this year: elementary school, grades 3-5; middle school, grades 6-8, and high school, grades 9-12. All contestants will be judged on formal wear, except for the high school students. In addition to formal wear, high school students will also have to answer an interview question.
Applications may be picked up at the office of any of the three schools. Applications can be downloaded by going to http:// www.jenkins.k12.ga.us/ click on the high school website. The deadline to turn in an application will be Feb. 24.
