Cheerleading squad is region runner-up

The Jenkins County High School (JCHS) 2009-2010 Competition Squad had a very successful season being named Region 3A runner-up and tied for sixth place in the state competition.
The season began with the JCHS Competition team hosting the first Eagle Invitation on Sept. 19, 2009 in the JCHS gymnatorium. Twenty-three teams in divisions A – AAAA competed. Around 1300 people were in attendance for this very successful event.
The squad participated in several competitions and never disappointed the crowd or the judges. The squad’s first competition was Oct. 3, 2009 at Southeast Bulloch High School. The JCHS squad won first place. Other schools competing in the Jacket Jam were ECI, Metter and Portal.
On October 10, the competition squad traveled to East Laurens High School to compete in the Falcon Invitational against Treutlen, Johnson, and Bacon County High Schools. Jenkins County brought home first for the second week in a row.
On Oct. 24, the team competed in Effingham County against Metter, Portal, ECI and Bacon County. Jenkins came out on top once again for their third consecutive first place win of the season.
The Southeast Region Cheerleading Championship was held on Nov. 7 at the JCHS gymnatorium. The JCHS squad was named Region 3A runner-up, which allowed them the opportunity to continue their season at the state competition in Columbus on Nov. 14. The squad tied for sixth place in the state competition.
“These girls had a wonderful year! We are very proud of the competition girls, their success, and most importantly having them represent Jenkins County!” commented the team’s sponsors.
