Syl-View Happenings

By Betty Scarborough
Activity Director

The residents have enjoyed colorful, exciting happenings, and the Valentine party was filled with sweet, sweet fellowship as the community volunteers hosted a party complete with fun refreshments.

They enjoyed a hug from volunteers and staff as they delivered a red rose to each resident which was provided by the NAACP. The group also provided decorated plates and napkins along with heart shaped cookies. Volunteers provided chicken wings and sandwiches, cup cakes and rice crispy treats. Betty parker provided red punch. Church members and clubs made and delivered valentines. Even business groups delivered gifts for the residents, and the activity staff delivered so many Valentines that came by mail. Thanks to all who shared.

Then it was time to celebrate Mardi Gras, which included an in-house wheelchair parade. The residents all wore beads in the colors of green, purple and gold. Ella Rae Chance wore a red glittered top hat, and Raymond Jackson wore a gold glittered top hat. The group enjoyed Kings cake by volunteer Jerry Hunter. We loved seeing the smiles on the faces of our room bound as the group paraded up and down the halls to Mardi Gras music. Staff members pushed the wheel chairs and joined in the celebration.

On Friday, Vicki Bragg, director of nurses, sang for the residents’ pleasure. Cheryl Roberts, R.N. of the nursing staff, had the residents joining as she sang and danced for the group. Sheila Wilson, R.N. quality assurance nurse, sang, and there was joy and laughter as she entertained with Harper Valley P.T.A. It was a special happening. And the staff is appreciated.

The staff is busy as we prepare for the Ms. Syl-View Pageant to be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11.

Marilyn Reddick will host a doll show 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb 25. She will be assisted by her family. I will be able to share a report on the doll show next week.

We invite you to visit Syl- View and enjoy some of the special happenings with us.
