JROTC competition results announced

Five area high schools with Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Drill Teams met Saturday, Feb. 20, at Jenkins County High School for a “march off” to determine which school can claim bragging rights for the week as the best precision drill team and color guard in the area. Bryan County, Emanuel County Institute, Jenkins County, South East Bulloch and Statesboro went head to head and toe to toe in some of the closest matched teams of the year.

Overall, there were nine team events and four individual events in competition with several ties and many very close scores deciding the winner.

In the Male/Mixed Color Guard Jenkins County took first with a 726 score. South East Bulloch and Statesboro tied for second with a 688, and Bryan County finished fourth. The Female Color Guard saw Statesboro running away from any competition with a score of 707 followed by Jenkins County with 630 and Bryan County third with 421. Statesboro had the only Female Platoon in Unarmed Basic Drill and scored a 1225. The Male/Mixed Unarmed Platoon Basic drill was much more competitive with Jenkins County scoring 1292, South East Bulloch 1291 and Statesboro 1217.

In Unarmed Squad Basic Drill Male/Mixed Jenkins County and South East Bulloch tied at 967; Statesboro was third with 924, Emanuel County Institute 907 and Bryan County 883. Female Unarmed Squad Basic had Statesboro as number one with 943 followed by Jenkins County’s 916 and Emanuel County finishing up the category with 894. The Armed Squad Basic Male/Mixed had Jenkins County with 1160; Bryan County 1157; Statesboro 1149; and South East Bulloch 1134. Finishing out the team competition in Female Squad Armed Basic drill had Jenkins County first with 1149 points; Emanuel County 1075 and Statesboro 1046.

Individual competition saw Bryan County’s Cadet Moore win the Female Armed Exhibition with a 725 and Bryan County’s Cadet Ellerman win the Male Armed Exhibition. In the Individual Armed Knock-Out competition Cadet Keondra Kelly from Jenkins County won first, Cadet Schovski from South East Bulloch was second and Cadet Christmas from Statesboro third. Individual Unarmed Knock-Out had Cadet Marquis Moody from Jenkins County first, Cadet Karroll of Statesboro second and Cadet Yarbrough from South East Bulloch was third.

Jenkins County finished first place in eight events and second place in two events.
