Southeastern Technical College directors meet in Jenkins County

CATHY MITCHELL, SOUTHEASTERN TECHNICAL COLLEGE PRESIDENT CATHY MITCHELL, SOUTHEASTERN TECHNICAL COLLEGE PRESIDENT “Meet and greet” was the theme for a luncheon/meeting attended by members of Southeastern Technical College’s board of directors and community leaders held at the Jenkins County Adult Learning Center Thursday, Feb. 25.

Cathy Mitchell, STC president, explained that since STC and Swainsboro Technical College had merged in July 2009, the college’s board of directors was meeting in each of the eight counties included in their service area to introduce themselves and meet with local leaders.

She noted that approximately 3,000 students were enrolled at STC each quarter on three campuses located in Glennville, Swainsboro and Vidalia. STC also operates nine adult education centers in the 8-county service area, including the Jenkins County Adult Learning Center.

During an informal question and answer session, additional ways STC could serve the community were discussed. Items discussed included: possible construction/ renovation of the local adult learning center, assistance with training of employees for new industries; and development of a multi-school system Career Academy.

STC’s 8-county service area includes Candler, Emanuel, Jenkins, Johnson, Montgomery, Tattnall, Toombs and Treutlen counties.
