American Red Cross to accept donations
Friday, March 26, through Sunday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. , the local American Red Cross Chapter will be collecting money to help provide food, clothing and shelter to local families that are affected by a disaster, such as a fire. Red Cross volunteers, including Glenn Campbell, will be at the BI-LO Store at 540 East Winthrope Avenue in Millen accepting donations.
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Augusta Chapter was chartered in 1917 as a unit of the American National Red Cross. During this time, the local chapter has provided services to the citizens of 11 counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, and Wilkes. The chapter is guided by a Board of Directors composed of volunteers from the chapter’s jurisdiction. A staff of seven and a volunteer force of approximately 500 provide the programs and services to the local community.
