Reverend Frank Sharpe Sr. died Feb. 5

The Reverend Frank Sharpe Sr. entered into rest Friday, Feb. 5, 2010.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Fellowship Baptist Church, Waynesboro.

Mr. Sharpe was born August 5, 1926 to the late Freddie Lee and Andrew Sharpe, Jr. in Perkins. As a small child, he joined Fellowship Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon, then later ordained as a Minister of the Gospel.

Rev. Sharpe served in the United States Army. He completed a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War. He received three awards while enlisted: the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and four Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharged in 1953.

The Bible says that a man who findeth a wife finds a good thing. In 1957, he was united in holy matrimony to an exceptional woman, the late Mrs. Gracie Mae (Jones) Sharpe. To this union, nine children were born. They were happily married for 49 years. Honoring the covenant of their wedding vows, they were separated only by death.

Rev. Sharpe was a diligent servant in both the church and in his community. He answered his call into the gospel ministry in 1981 and served as pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Waynesboro for almost 20 years. He later served as pastor of the Bell Grove Baptist Church in Waynesboro before retiring in 2009. During his pastorship, he was the General of the Ushers Union. He was also a member of the NAACP.

A respected Christian and minister, and devoted husband and father, he leaves to cherish his life, his love and his memories five daughters: Virginia Scott of Powder Springs, the Rev. Gladys Golphin (Roman) of Keysville, Rosa Johnson (Douglas) of Riverdale, Maxine Williams (Thomas) of Charlotte, N.C. and Gracie Brown (Donifon)of North Augusta, S.C.; four sons: Kermit Sharpe (Rita) of Raleigh, N.C., Frank Sharpe Jr. (Zanither) of Powder Springs, George Edward Sharpe (Walthena) of Ellenwood and Ricky Robert Sharpe of Decatur; two sisters, Annie Pearl Jackson (Willie Louis) of Savannah, and Nina Bell Williams (John) of Goliad, TX; 20 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives, friends and colleagues.
