Jenkins Co. baseball season is underway
The Jenkins County High School varsity team began its baseball season with two wins Feb. 27 in Burke County. The Eagles defeated Hephzibah 16- 1 and Burke County 19-5.
Leading Hitters for the Eagles in the game against Hephzibah were: Akeem Young, 4-4, two doubles, four runs scored; Jake Knight, 2-3, with a double; and Spencer Clark and Dag Gay, 1-2, two walks and a double.
“Will Bragg pitched four in- nings of shutout baseball giving up only one hit in a great effort getting the win. Will Brinson came in relief pitching one innings giving up only one hit. It was a team effort all the way around,” commented Coach Wendell Clark.
Leading hitters for the Eagles in the game against Burke County were: Spencer Clark, 3- 4, with a three runs scored; Aaron Comstock, 3-4, three runs scored; Akeem Young, 2- 3, two runs scored; Dag Gay, 2-4, with four RBI’s; Aaron Tanner, 2-4, with three RBI’s; Will Brinson, 2-4, with three runs scored; and Jake Knight, 1-3, two walks and three runs scored.
“Aaron Comstock pitched a great game giving up only five hits, four strikeouts and no walks to get the win. Aaron Tanner came in relief only giving up two hits and no runs in two complete innings. It was a great day for the Eagles at Burke County diamond day,” said Coach Clark.
B-team
The Eagles B-team lost to Burke County 10-6.
Leading hitters were: Mason Davis went 2-3 with a triple; Donnie Gay, Juan Vasquez, Will Griffin and Johnny Lyles all picked up a hit.
Trey Black started out well pitching, then Drew Allen and Jonathan Brown came in relief.
“A good effort out of the Bteam playing in the first game,” said Coach Clark.
