Batting for AJ tournament to be held

2010-03-17 / Datebook

The second annual Batting for AJ softball tournament will be held Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20, at the Jenkins County Recreation Department complex with approximately 16 church teams participating, including local churches. Admission is free, and concessions will be available.

AJ is a 7½-year-old Mill Creek Elementary School student who lives in Statesboro with his parents, Jerel and Pam Scott and two sisters, Jolie and Jana.

In 2007, AJ was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood. It affects one in 3,500 boys born each year. Although there are medical treatments to slow progression of the disease, there is not a cure.

All proceeds from the softball tournament will go to help fund AJ’s MD Project, a fund started by friends of the family to assist with AJ’s medical bills and other needs.

The public is invited to attend.
