Syl-View Happenings

The “Happenings” have come so fast that I’m begging for the world to slow down. It’s been great with much more to come, and I love every moment of the activities.
The day of the pageant, the rain came down, and the sky was dark as I left work early to be able to return for the pageant. I felt downcast, but a short while later as I returned, the sun was shining, and there was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. I breathed a prayer of thanksgiving.
The ladies of the honor court were all dressed and excited about the celebration. Each one wore a corsage provided by the Sylvania Junior Woman’s Club and one of our vendors.
Victoria Bohannon, Miss Screven County 2009, entered in her silver and white gown to escort the royal court. They were former Ms. Syl-Views, and they were dressed royally. They were Charity Bragg, Ella Rae Chance and Linnie Frawley.
Then, our contestants arrived. Queen Scott was in a white suit. Cora Lee Scott was in a black and white formal pants suit, and Margaret Lovett was in a silver floor length gown with silver slippers. She announced that she felt like a bride, and she though she would get married.
There was a standing room only crowd, and fun and laughter filled the solarium. Justin Brannen served as Master of Ceremonies, and Linda Reddick directed the music and the Sisters Act blended their voices in song. Marilyn Reddick provided piano music, and Jordon Zeigler and Amanda Long joined them in song.
The Volunteer of the Year awards were given, and the judges returned with their decision. Margaret Lovett was crowned, and the group smiled as she stated, in jest, that I talked too much and asked her too many questions which were none of my business. Cora Lee Scott was first runner-up, and Queen Scott was second runnerup. All three ladies received arm bouquets of red roses provided by the Sylvania Junior Woman’s Club. Toni Ellison, administrator, Middleground Baptist Church and McBride United Methodist Church sponsored the queen’s reception.
Macie Brannen, Teen Volunteer of the Year, provided her collection of Barbie dolls for our 50th birthday party for Barbie. The volunteers and staff assisted, and we served birthday cake, iced in white and trimmed in pink, along with ice cream. The men enjoyed the event along with the ladies. We also had a Coca Cola party, bingo Church and a mission group.
So, I am dizzy, and will try to get balanced and be ready for many more exciting events beginning with Fun Night and a Welcome Spring party.
Thanks for sharing these Syl- View Happenings and the lovely daffodils in the courtyard which were given by Marie Dwelle are in full bloom, ringing in the delightful season of spring.
