Schools pursue AdvancED District Accreditation
The Jenkins County school system is opening its doors to a powerful system approach in improving student performance and organizational effectiveness by inviting trained professionals from across the state and nation to assess our strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Traditionally, the high school is the only school that is SACS accredited, which means that the school complies with Georgia standards established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The other schools go through an accreditation process annually that is administered by the Georgia Accrediting Commission. Through this process each school is evaluated on its individual merit.
Jenkins County School Superintendent Melissa Williams states, “The Jenkins County school system is committed to higher standards; thus, embracing the pursuit of district accreditation that will review the system as a whole. This process invites school districts and their stakeholders to collaborate on reviewing the quality of the educational opportunities provided, the success of each individual school and their collective contributions to student learning and overall district effectiveness. Increasing student achievement involves more than improving instruction. It is a result of how well all parts of the educational system – the district, schools and classrooms – work together to meet the needs of students. The Jenkins County school district is a good district; however, we believe strongly that the AdvancED District Accreditation process will make us even better. Students win when the entire district commits to examining all of its processes and systems to determine what more we can be doing to benefit the students we serve. This is the essence of the accreditation process.”
The accreditation process centers around a team of educators coming into the system to evaluate the educational programs offered to students. The team will visit March 29-31 to interview administrators, teachers, parents, students and board members.
