Oglesby sworn into U.S. Navy

Christopher Hill of the U.S. Army. (Photo contributed) Robert Adam Oglesby of Millen, as a new enlistment with the U.S. Navy, was sworn into service March 1.

Adam enlisted in the Delayed Entry/Enlistment Program of the U.S. Navy Jan. 30, 2009. He has been active with several events and programs in Statesboro while waiting for an opening in his chosen area of Advanced Electronics Computer Field.

Adam was officially accepted in service in Jacksonville, Florida at the Department of Defense Military Entrance Processing Station. He and several other new recruits were then flown to Great Lakes, Illinois for seven weeks of boot camp. While there he will participate in classroom instruction, military drills and physical fitness train- ing.

After successfully completing all training requirements, Adam will participate in a graduation ceremony – a military Pass-in- Review – in Great Lakes on April 23.

Adam is the son of Jenkins County Sheriff Robert Oglesby and Melody Oglesby. He is the grandson of Tom and Sherley Cooper, Tommy and Shirley Taylor and the late Sam Oglesby, all of Millen.
