Eagles win two on the diamond

The Jenkins County High School varsity baseball team won two region games last week on the road. The Eagles defeated Claxton 10-9 on Mach 13 and Bryan County 11-2 on March 16.

Leading hitters for the Eagles in the game against Claxton were: Spencer Clark, 2-3, with a double and two RS; Dag Gay, Akeem Young and Marquett Young, 2-4, with a RS each; Will Bragg, 1-3, and a homerun; and Aaron Comstock, 1-3, and two RS.

“Aaron Tanner pitched a good game with only four errand runs, and Will Brinson came in relief to get the win striking out the last six batters. It was a great come from behind win in the seven inning,” commented Coach Wendell Clark.

Eagles’ leading hitters in the game against Bryan County were: Spencer Clark, 4-5, with a double and three RS; Will Brinson, 3-4, with a homerun, a double and three RS; Akeem Young, 3-4, with a walk and two RS; Aaron Comstock, 2-3, with two walks; Dag Gay, 2-4, with a RS; and Jake Knight, 1-3, with a double.

“Will Bragg pitched another complete game win with no errand runs and six strikeouts. It was another region win in a tough place to play,” said Coach Clark.

B-Team

The Eagles B-team lost two games on the road last week. The Eagles lost 14-2 to Screven County on March 10 and 7-3 to Bryan County on March 16.

Leading hitters against Screven County were: Mason Davis and Juan Vasquez, 1-2, with a RS; and Lavontay Evans, 1-2, with a double.

In the game against Bryan County, leading hitters for the Eagles were: Drew Allen, 2-2; Mason Davis, 1-1, with a triple; Quinton Watson, 1-1, with a RS and two steals; Jared Orvin, 1-1, with a walk; and Juan Vasquez and Johnny Lyles, 1-2, with a double.
