Millen man indicted by Burke County Grand Jury
A Burke County Grand Jury returned “true bills” on a Millen man accused of blasting 14 rounds into a Briarwood apartment where five people were huddled in a closet.
According to the original incident report filed in January, Darrick Lake Jr., 23, got into a fight with his ex-girlfriend and went looking for her with a shotgun outfitted with a pistol grip.
He allegedly fired through the front door of the apartment, down the hallway and into a bedroom where five people were hidden in a closet.
As Lake walked past the closet, two of the men inside grabbed the barrel of the gun and held him down until police arrived.
For this incident and another that occurred five days later, Lake faces charges of aggravated assault (five counts), criminal damage to property in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the community of a crime (five counts), battery and family violence battery.
