State Representative Jon Burns (R-Newington) will seek re-election for House District 157. First elected in 2004, Burns was born and raised in Effingham County, one of the areas in the district he represents today. Rep. Burns is the Chairman of the Special Rules Committee and Secretary of the Game, Fish, and Parks Committee in the House of Representatives.

Representative Burns serves on the following House Committees: Agriculture and Consumer Affairs; Appropriations; Game, Fish, and Parks; Special Rules; and Transportation. Also, Burns was appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve on the Agriculture Education Advisory Commission and the Georgia Commission on Interstate Cooperation.

Rep. Burns represents Jenkins and Screven Counties, and parts of Bulloch, Burke, and Effingham Counties in the Georgia General Assembly.
