JCHS wins 3, loses 1 on the diamond
The Jenkins County High School varsity baseball team completed a week of play with three wins and one loss.
The Eagles defeated Savannah Country Day (SCD), 7-6; Savanah Christian 11-7; and Bryan County 7-6. The Eagles lost 1-4 to Claxton.
Leading Hitters in the game against SCD were: Spencer Clark 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIS; Akeem Young 2-4; and Will Bragg, Aaron Comstock, Dag Gay and Jake Knight all 1- 3.
“The Eagles were down 6-4 in the sixth and fought back scoring three in the top of the sixth.
Aaron Tanner pitched a great game going all seven innings with only one earned run, nine strikeouts and only one walk. He struck out the last two batters to end the game. The players would like to thank Ricky Evans for all his hard work being a great manger,” said Coach Wendell Clark.
Leading hitters for the Eagles in the game against Claxton were: Spencer Clark 2-4, Will Brinson, Josh Sipes and Aaron Tanner, all 1-3.
“Will Bragg pitched six hard innings only giving up one earned run. Jake Knight came in relief retiring the last three batting,” commented Coach Clark.
In the game against Savannah Christian, leading hitters were: Dag Gay 3-3 with two walks and three runs scored; Aaron Tanner 2-2 with a double, two walks and 2 RBIS; Aaron Comstock 2-3 with a double and 2 runs scored; Akeem Young 2-3 with 2 RBIS; Will Bragg 1-3 with a 3-run homerun, sacrifice fly and 4 RBIS; Marquett Young and Will Brinson, both 1-2 with 2 walks apiece; and Jake Knight 1-3 with a double and sacrifice bunt.
“Jake Knight pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win. He had a great day hitting his spots. Will Bragg came in to get the save striking out three batters and only giving up one hit in 2 1/3 innings. This was a big win for our program by beating a top ten team in the state,” said Coach Clark.
Leading hitters for the Eagles in the game against Bryan County were: Aaron Comstock went 1-1 with three walks; Spencer Clark 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI’s; Marquett Young 1-2; Will Bragg 1-3 with 3 RBI’s; and Will Brinson1-3 with the game winning triple.
“Aaron Tanner went six strong innings only giving up one earned run with five hits. Will Bragg came in relief to close the door with no errand runs and only one hit,” said Coach Clark.
