Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
On April 15, our lives changed forever. I was walking my dogs, Clyde and Chloe, in our yard, and they were on their leashes when they were attacked by a pit bulldog.
He came out of nowhere, and grabbed my little Chloe. I had to listen and watch as this animal was attacking her. It was the most violent think I have ever witnessed. My husband had to fight the animal for nearly an hour before he finally had to take the dog’s life. My husband suffered numerous bites to his hands and fingers before it was all over.
My sweet Chloe was hurt so badly that she didn’t survive this terrible attack. The actions of this vicious animal have left an empty space in our lives that can never be filled. If there is one good thing that came of this, the dog wasn’t rabid.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in Millen. We have too many vicious, wild and stray dogs in our community. We need stiffer laws, and they should be enforced.
Why would anyone as a dog owner want to train their dog to fight? It’s not a sport. It’s inhumane to do this. It’s heartless and cruel, and you should be ashamed. If this is hard for you to read, then maybe you have something to be ashamed of. Or do you feel anything at all?
It’s our responsibility as pet owners to love them and take care of them. Their main goal in life is to be loyal and devoted to you. Don’t they deserve the same from us?
I love my dogs very much, and now one of mine is gone forever, all because you didn’t love yours enough. I miss her sweet face more than anyone can ever know. I do have peace knowing she knew we loved her very much. Please don’t train your animals to hurt others.
Sincerely, Patsy Sherrod, Cloe’s Mom
Millen
