Otto Rondon of the musical group Tahino will be playing Mexican mariachi music this Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m. On Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m., we will have a performance by Japanese singer-songwriter Hiro Sasayama. Please join us in enjoying these great musical events! These programs are supported in part by the Grassroots Arts Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly and in partnership with the Statesboro Arts Council.
This Wednesday, May 5, we will be having Storytime at 4 p.m. for the preschoolers. Then we’re taking a little break from Storytime in order to get ready for Summer Reading Program! Storytime will not be held until we begin Summer Reading this June.
This summer, we have three Summer Reading Clubs! The first, for kids 0-10 years old, is called “Make a Splash”. The second, for ages 11-19, is called “Make Waves”. The third, for adults, is called “Water Your Mind.”
We have a ton of fun activities planned for all three age groups, a bunch of cool prizes, and much more in the works, so watch this space for the latest news!
Look in the library and you’ll find that we have a lot of great new books, courtesy of the WE THE PEOPLE Bookshelf, provided by the National Endowment for the humanities!
New at the library: CHAINS by Laurie Halse Anderson. The Revolutionary War promised freedom for America - but not for 13 year old Isabel, a slave girl promised freedom upon the death of her owner. Instead, she becomes the property of a cruel couple in New York. Can she help the Patriots by spying on her British-sympathizing owners, and in doing so, win her freedom?
