(Photo contributed) The Jenkins County High School Lady Eagles War Eagles track and field team traveled to Southeast Bulloch High School for the Region Track meet on April 21 and April 23. The Lady Eagles battled 12 other teams and came in a very strong second place behind the region champs, Bryan County.

Overall results for the meet were; Bryan County, 147.5 pts.; Jenkins County, 120.5 points; Claxton 75 pts., Calvary Day, 48.5 points; Treutlen County, 48 points; Savannah Country Day, 31 points; Wheeler County, 27 points; Savannah Christian, 27 points; Metter, 24.5 points; Portal, 18 points; Johnson County, 16 points; and Montgomery County, 0 points.

Individual scoring: Ayana Walker - 1st Place 100 Meters, 1st Place 200 Meters, 4th Place Long Jump; Zandra Lake – 1st Place 100 Hurdles, 1st Place 300 Hurdles, 2nd Place Triple Jump; Deondra Lewis – 1st Place Shot Put, 2nd Discus; and Jasmen Taylor – 4th Place 100 Hurdles, 4th Place 300 Hurdles, 10th Place Long Jump.

Also, Shenice Thompson – 7th Place 100 Meters; Shae Burke – 5th Place 400 Meters, 7th Place 800 Meters, 7th Place High Jump; Whitney Jones – 6th Place 800 Meters; Jonquette Sanders – 4th Place Triple Jump, 11th Place 1 Mile; Chelsea Taylor – 7th Place Discus, 8th Place Shot Put; Shalyn Morris – 12th Place 1 Mile; Brittany McKinney – 10th Place 2 Mile and Kayla Kirkland – 9th Place High Jump. Also helping the team in the region meet were Desiree Tarver and Chelsea Wright.

The 4 x 100 Relay Team A (Thompson, Taylor, Lake and Walker) finished in second place and the 4 x 400 Relay Team A (Walker, Burke, Taylor and Lake) finished in second place. The 4 x 400 Relay Team B (Wright, Kirkland, Jones and Tarver) finished in sixth place.

The following young ladies will be going to the state track meet on May 6-8 in Albany: Ayana Walker in the 100 Meters, 200 Meters and the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays; Zandra Lake in the 100 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, Triple Jump and the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays; Deondra Lewis in the Discus and Shot Put; Also, Shenice Thompson, Shae Burke and Shalyn Morris as part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams.
