Japanese singer-songwriter Hiro Sasayama will be at the Jenkins County Memorial Library 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, for a free concert! Come in and enjoy an hour of melodies from East and West, perfect for a relaxing weekend. This program is supported in part by the Grassroots Arts Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly and in partnership with the Statesboro Arts Council.

Summer is coming, and that means our terrific Summer Reading Program is coming up soon! This summer, it begins June 14 and we’ll have three programs so everyone can participate - kids, teens and adults! Children up to 10 years old can sign up for the “Make a Splash” program, teens and “tweens” 11 to 19 can be part of the “Make Waves” program, and you adults can “Water Your Mind” with our program for grown-ups!

We will be closed Monday, May 31, for Memorial Day.

New to the library: The Souls of Black Folk by W. E. B. Du Bois. Is it a memoir, a collection of essays, a work of fiction? It’s a little of all of those, and it was the book that made W. E. B. Du Bois one of the most recognized names in the Civil Rights Movement. Read it for yourself, and understand why this book is a classic.

Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the American military.
