JCHS names Valedictorian, Salutatorian

(Photo contributed) Top honors of the Jenkins County High School (JCHS) Class of 2010 go to Jessica Michelle Head, valedictorian, and Jena Alexis Branch, salutatorian.

Jessica, daughter of Mike and Anette Head, has achieved numerous academic honors that include: Beta Club, 4 years, serving as vice-president and president; mathematics competition participant at Georgia Southern University; Rotary scholar, six years; Who’s Who Among American High School students, 2006-2007; National Honor Roll, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008; Clemson’s Challenge for Academically Talented Students participant; Who’s Who Among American Scholars, 2008-2009; Augusta State University Certificate of Academic Achievement; GREA Academic Award; 2009 Georgia Certificate of Merit Scholar; Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award; and U.S. Achievement Academy, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.

Her extracurricular activities include: Competition Cheerleading, 3 years, Eagle Award fro 2008-2009 and 2009- 2010 seasons and co-captain; members of schools’ Design Team; Club Hero, 2008-2009 Student Advisory Council; Student Council; See You At The Pole leader; Interact Act Club; Homecoming Representative and Homecoming Court, 12th grade; People to People Student Ambassador program; Jenkins County Leadership Council; Jenkins County Mentoring program; “Thanksgiving in Millen” participant; active member of Deep Creek Free Will Baptist Church; and Millen Baptist Church Wednesday night youth services participant.

Upon graduation from JCHS, Jessica plans to seek a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Georgia Southern University.

Jena, daughter of Dawn Parker and Gene Branch, has earned numerous academic honors including: GRE Academic Award, highest average in Algebra II and U.S. History, six year Rotary Scholar Award; Georgia Certificate of Merit Award and Augusta State Academic Achievement Award.

She has participated in several clubs including: Club Hero, Future Business Leaders of America, Jenkins County Mentoring Program and the Leadership Council. She was selected a Senior Superlative by the JCHS staff. Jena attends Skull Creek Baptist Church.

After graduation, Jena plans to attend Georgia Southern University and major in Psychology.
