The Chatter Box

By Deborah Bennett

Next Monday is Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The saying, “freedom is not free” is certainly true. Let’s all take a moment on Monday to pay tribute to all of those who laid down their lives so that we might enjoy the freedom we have today.

“We cherish too, the Poppy red that grows on fields where valor led, it seems to signal to the skies that blood of heroes never dies,” from a poem by Moina Michael.

If you are looking to purchase fresh produce, the Cotton Market park on Cotton Avenue is the place to go 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays. I have observed several vendors there in recent weeks with a variety of items for sell. There has also been a good size crowd browsing the offerings. The activity is sure to increase as local produce becomes ready.

For more information, call (478) 982-5595. The market is sponsored by Millen Better Hometown.

If you are still looking for a graduation gift, consider a subscription to The Millen News for the graduate who is starting college. It is a great way to keep up with what is happening in your home community. Out-of-town subscriptions are $33 for a year. That is only 63 cents a week. And you get a gift certificate to give the graduate.
