(Staff photo by Deborah Bennett) Cooling off during the hot summer months ahead is as easy as taking a dip in the pool at Magnolia Springs State Park. The pool will open this Saturday to kick off Memorial Day weekend.

The hours of operations for the Memorial Day weekend are 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, May 29, through Monday, May 31. The pool will be closed Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2. Regular pool hours for the rest of the summer will be Wednesdays – Fridays, 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. The pool will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

A new pool concession area on the pool deck will be open this year with two windows for water purchases only. Another concession area will be open outside the pool deck for the purchases of hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, fountain drinks, chips, candy and ice cream.

Lifeguards, Red Cross certified, will be on duty. However, all children will need to have a parent or guardian to accompany them at all times. No drop-offs will be permitted. All pool guests are expected to follow the rules and regulations set by the State of Georgia. These will be enforced by pool lifeguards.

Due to state budget cuts, all pools in the Georgia State Parks system were closed with the exception of two, one being the pool at Magnolia Springs State Park, noted a park official.

“We feel very fortunate to be one of the two pools remaining open and to offer the pool to this community and surrounding area,” the official said.

For further information, the park office may be contacted at (478) 982-1660.
