Cable fees, service addressed by county commissioners
Franchise fees charged by Comcast Cable Company and improving the level of service to local residents were topics of discussion at the May 4 meeting of the Jenkins County Commissioners.
A local resident reported that the fees were going to be increased in the near future, and that the fees charged Millen residents would be higher than those charged in Augusta. The resident requested that the commissioners support his effort to have Comcast charge the same rate for franchise fees in all locations.
The Commissioners agreed to write a letter to Comcast concerning their low level of service in Jenkins County areas and to request that this service be upgraded.
Other actions taken by the commissioners included the following:
• Approved an amendment to the 2008-2009 budget as required by the state;
• Approved an insurance quote from Dwelle Insurance Agency for all county insurance purposes in the amount of $68,627; and
• Approved the appointment of Jerry Messex to the Jenkins County Memorial Library board of directors.
