The sign at the center had been vandalized with some of the letters being removed, and the rope and attachments for the U.S. flag were also removed. The flag and pole had previously been donated by the VFW.

Commander Byron Scogins stated that lettering was procured and reattached to the sign, and Old Glory once again flies proudly with a new rope and attachments. Additionally, the VFW purchased materials for two picnic tables for the center. Construction was donated by Thomas Hughes, and Ralph Paramore made the letters for the sign.

“The VFW stands ready and committed to community projects as our budget allows. We are totally reliant upon funds raised through donations and Buddy Poppy Drives. VFW members will be conducting a fundraiser in front of various businesses 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, May 29, in recognition of Memorial Day weekend. All donations will be greatly appreciated,” said Commander Scogins.
