Looking Good!

Improvements to Cotton Avenue have been completed, and a dedication celebration was held last Friday to commemorate the fact.

For months, the city’s downtown street has been “torn up” as work began on two Transportation Enhancement (TE) projects. The projects were funded through two TE grants awarded to the City of Millen through the Georgia Department of Transportation. The grants provided for new handicap accessible sidewalks, the addition of green space, parallel parking on the store side of the street and additional diagonal parking on the railroad side. New street lights were also installed, and the street received a new surface.

A community’s appearance is of vital importance when trying to attract new industry. Millen’s downtown street can now be a source of community pride, something to “show off” to visitors. The transformation is remarkable. Cotton Avenue has never looked so good!
