Daylilies Daylilies Everywhere!

By Deborah Bennett Millen News Editor

If you have traveled Masonic Street in Millen, you have no doubt noticed the numerous containers of Daylilies on the lawn of Ed Paul’s residence. While the flowers are certainly beautifully, don’t assume that they are just for aesthetic purposes or merely a hobby of their owner.

Mr. Paul is a master grower who has specialized in hand pollination and cross breeding of Daylilies for many years. His efforts have won several awards at area flower shows. He has also developed a Daylily variety that has “frilly edges.”

“That is something new is Daylilies,” he notes.

While the hand pollination process is time consuming, Mr. Paul clearly enjoys the process.

“I come out here everyday and hand pollinate the flowers,” he says.

The numerous large containers of flowers attract a lot of attention from those passing by, and occasionally a curious motorist will stop to admire the Daylilies, or inquire about them. Mr. Paul is more than willing to talk about his beautiful creations.
