Millen native, resident honored

Johnson named SES Teacher of the Year Johnson named SES Teacher of the Year Cassie Johnson, formerly of Millen, was selected as the 2010- 2011 Teacher of the Year at Swainsboro Elementary School (SES). She is a fifth grade mathematics teacher. Cassie has been teaching at SES for four years.

During her teaching career she has completed her master’s degree from Walden University in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment as well as specialist degree from Nova Southeastern Uni- versity in Brain Based Teaching Instructional Leadership. Cassie enjoys teaching her students by connecting learning to real world situations so students understand the standard being taught each day.

She resides near Stillmore with her husband Brian.

SGA Elementarys’ first grade teacher, Anna Herrington, was chosen as the school’s Teacher of the Year for the 2010- 2011 school term. The honor came at the conclusion of her fifth year with the Burke County school located in Sardis. Mrs. Herrington was nominated and selected by her fellow teachers for the recognition. She joins five other educators in the Burke County School System component of the Georgia Teachers of the Year program. The goal of the statewide recognition program is to promote and retain quality teachers.

Herrington named SGA Teacher of the Year Herrington named SGA Teacher of the Year Mrs. Herrington is a 2002 honor graduate and salutatorian of Jenkins County High School. She graduated magna cum laude in 2005 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2008, she earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Reading from Nova Southeastern University.

Mrs. Herrington resides in Perkins with her husband, John T. Herrington III, and their 1-year-old daughter, Lilly. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Griffin of Millen.
