Patriotic Celebration slated for July 3
Jenkins County’s Patriotic Celebration, sponsored by Millen Better Hometown, is set for Saturday, July 3, at the Jenkins County Recreation complex. The celebration includes patriotic tribute, special recognition of Jenkins County Veterans, fire works display and patriotic music performances by local talent.
Veterans are asked to gather at the tent on the recreation football field at 8:15 p.m. to be recognized during the program. The Jenkins County High School JROTC Color Guard will begin the ceremony at 8:30 p.m. The traditional Kiddie Patriotic Parade will take place at 8 p.m. on the track. All children who are dressed in patriotic attire are invited to participate. A prize will be awarded to the best decorated picnic area with a patriotic theme.
Admission is free. A concession stand will be open with all proceeds being used to help pay for the fireworks display.
Recreation Department
The Jenkins County Recreation Department’s church league is now playing at 6 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Please come out and support the churches.
Baseball camp will be held 9 a.m. until noon July 12-15 at the recreation complex.
Come by to sign up. Must have at least 10 boys to hold camp, ages 6 and up! The cost of camp is $60 per child. The deadline is July 8.
Movie Day will be held every Tuesday at 2 p.m. The movie is free with the purchase of popcorn and Coke for $3. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult.
Karate classes are held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the recreation gymnasium. Fee is $40 per month.
Georgia High School
Graduation Test review
Ruth Hearn, guidance counselor at Jenkins County High School (JCHS), has announced the dates for the review sessions for the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT). All juniors who failed a portion of the tests are encouraged to return for the review, as well as any former student who need to re-test for a portion of the exam. Students who participate in the review sessions normally pass the tests at a higher rate than students who do not review.
The review dates are scheduled at JCHS for Monday, July 5, through Friday, July 9, at the following times: 8-10 a.m., Math; 10 a.m. – noon, English/ Writing; 1-3 p.m., Social Studies and 3-5 p.m., Science.
The tests will be administered on the following dates at 8:30 a.m. at JCHS: Monday, July 12, English; Tuesday, July 13, Math; Wednesday, July 14, Science and Writing; Thursday, July 15, Social Studies; and Friday, July 16, Make-Up day. There is no make-up date for the writing test.
