BOE approves ‘Teen Maze’
Local students will have the opportunity to participate in a new and innovative activity known as “Teen Maze.” The Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE) approved the program during the June 21 meeting of the group.
Mandy Underwood, Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center executive director, explained the program as “real life experiences without real life consequences.”
The program is tentatively scheduled for March 2011 and will occur during school hours. Parents will have the opportunity to participate the night prior to the event. Further details will be released as plans are completed.
Other actions taken by the BOE were as follows:
• Approved the employment of Larry Hadden and associates as Section 125 Plan Administrator
• Approved Community in Schools request to sell school supplies during school system’s Open House;
• Approved ground maintenance contract with R.C. Lawn Care and Landscaping in the amount of $24,000 annually;
• Approved Jenkins County School Food Service (JCSFS) milk bid by Pet Dairy in the amount of $77,549 annually;
• Approved JCSFS bread bid from Derst Baking in the amount of $13,130;
• Approved JCSFS icemaker bid from Norvell Fixture in the amount of $3,197;
• Approved JCSFS oven bid from Norvell Fixture in the amount of $17,000;
• Approved Family Connection contract for JCFEC in the amount of $44,000; and
• Approved fundraising activity for spirit cheerleaders.
