Syl-View Happenings

By Betty Scarborough Activity Director
This past week, I met a gentleman who lives in Cartersville who states he read the Syl-view Happenings. We have experienced some difficulty getting our news in on time, but we are working to establish a better contact. Thanks to The Millen News for allowing us this space.

I can hardly believe it is July. It seems I had just decorated the entrance for June with our bridal dolls, and now we are replacing these with red, white and blue. Macie Brannen, our Teen Volunteer of the Year, has decorated the large solarium, and the residents have enjoyed the patriotic colors and displays. We are using the flags and garland in our music and exercise time.

Ella Rae Chance wore a red, white and blue hat as she took part in the activity. We are so glad she was able to return to Sylview following a hospital stay. We will continue to use our flags as we celebrate our nation’s birthday. We would love to have you visit with us during the holidays.

We watched a country and western video of the Lawrence Welk show, and the solarium was rocking with music and laughter. There were lots of memories of watching the Lawrence Welk Show. We serve popsicles as a cool treat in this hot weather. In spite of the heat, our flowers in the container garden in the courtyard are so bright and pretty. Thanks to Justin Brannen for helping to plant and care for them. Some of our residents’ family members and volunteers also lent a hand.

The flowers planted in memory of Betty Purvis are looking good, and we thank you. The family of T.W. Lee gave a peace plant in his memory, and it is appreciated.

We enjoyed a program of gospel music presented by Jerry Jones of the Leefield Baptist Church. We were delighted to have Mr. Jones’ pastor to visit with him.

The July calendar is filled with lots of fun activities, and we will have a Half Way party as we celebrate the halfway point of the year 2010. So many wonderful happenings have taken place, and we are so grateful for the volunteers and community support we enjoy. We look forward to the second half and, remember, we need your love and support.

We received yarn this week for our volunteers to use to crochet items for the residents. We can use all colors and any amount you may be able to share. God bless you all, and come visit us soon at Syl-view.
